124 - 126 Elfreth’s alley
Decades of research has uncovered the rich history of what is now the Elfreth’s Alley Museum at 124 and 126. The families that filled the rooms and the changes adapting the buildings are all part of the story we tell in our museum space.
The Alley, the homes, the people
Our archives hold an array of information about the alley, the buildings that line it, and its many residents. In addition to photographs we have drawings, census records, family trees, and histories to explain what makes our street so unique.
elfreth’s alley association
Inspired by an alley resident and supported by local preservationists, the Elfreth’s Alley Association is the backbone of the national historic landmark we see today. Founded in 1936, it is dedicated to preserving the street’s history.
